San Francisco Gesneriad Society

NOTE: SFGS voted to dissolve the Society at the July meeting, and remaining meetings in 2023 have been canceled. This site will stay up and will be updated shortly to reflect that. We will also continue as a mailing list for people interested in gesneriads in the Bay Area, and will organize occasional events. If you would like to join, please contact us.

SFGS is the San Francisco Chapter of The Gesneriad Society, a worldwide non-profit organization of people who enjoy plants in the family Gesneriaceae. The chapter has members from all over the Bay Area.

The gesneriad family includes popular ornamental genera such as Aeschynanthus (lipstick plant), Columnea, Episcia, Nematanthus (goldfish plant), Saintpaulia (african violet), Sinningia (florist gloxinia), and many more.

Visitors are welcome to our meetings, typically on the third Sunday of each month. We bring our plants to show, share information about growing, and share plants at every meeting through a raffle. Please confirm the meeting date and location prior to coming, in case we have any last-minute changes.

In-person + Zoom: We are currently running meetings simultaneously in-person and on Zoom. If you are not able to join us in person and would like to join on Zoom, please contact us to RSVP and receive a link to join.
