SFGS is the San Francisco Chapter of The Gesneriad Society, a worldwide non-profit organization of people who enjoy plants in the family Gesneriaceae. The chapter has members from all over the Bay Area.
The gesneriad family includes popular ornamental genera such as Aeschynanthus (lipstick plant), Columnea, Episcia, Nematanthus (goldfish plant), Saintpaulia (african violet), Sinningia (florist gloxinia), and many more.
Visitors are welcome to our meetings. We bring our plants to show, share information about growing, and share plants at every meeting through a raffle. Please confirm the meeting date and location prior to coming, in case we have any last-minute changes.
San Mateo County Times wrote an article about us in 2006: Great gesneriads: Diverse family of plants is a mouthful to say, a pleasure to grow
