by David Waugh

2009 is fast approaching.  Here are the dates to remember (they will also appear in the 2009

Yearbook).

Meetings the 3rd Sunday of every month, January-November except March.   There was a big

conflict so we were moved to the 4th Sunday in March.

Special events:

We will participate in the Lunar New Year Flower Market 2009 sponsored by the San Francisco Botanical Garden Society.  It will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the SF County Fair Building (inside). Other garden clubs and vendors will be selling potted plants and traditional cut flowers for the Lunar New Year. There will also be free entertainment and children's activities.

One day Display and Sale on Saturday, May 30, Garden Club Room. We will set-up 8-10am, sell 10-3:30 and dismantle by 4pm.   We may extend the sale to 4:30pm and dismantle by 5pm.   The SF African Violet Society will be in the Rec Room and the SF Epiphyllum Society will be in the Auditorium.

The Annual Gesneriad Society Convention will be held in Silver Spring, MD from June 30 through July 4 and will be hosted by the National Capital Area Chapter, at the Hilton Washington DC hotel.

The San Mateo County Fair will be held in August.   More details will be passed to everyone

later.

For our annual Show and Sale we have tentatively reserved the Auditorium, to be shared with SF

African Violet Society, on September 18 for setup and September 19 for a one day Show and Sale.

Just for your information the Sacramento Delta Gesneriad Society will have their big Show and

Sale on September 26-27, 2009.

Minutes of San Francisco Gesneriad Society

September 21, 2008 Meeting

by David Waugh

The September meeting was called to order by President Jon Dixon at 1:28pm.  Also present were Terri Campbell, David Waugh, Katherine Henwood, Anna Chou, Gene Sussli, Kevin Daly, Nirmela Arsem, Larry Williams, Harriette Poss..

Minutes:  The minutes of the August meeting as presented in the September newsletter stand as is.

Treasurer’s report:  Our financial condition is good. We had many expenses but made up for them with the sales at the September Show and Sale.  If you wish a copy of the latest Treasurer’s report please contact Gene Sussli.

A discussion about our September Show and Sale took place.  We made the most money on the sale table on Saturday. Should we just have a one day Show and Sale next September?   Two teams for Judging seemed to go well this time.   They were done in near record time.  There were many comments about possibly using black table covers.   The one advantage is that it is easier to get a good photograph with a dark background.   Cactus and Succulent Society in their August show used black covers as well as black skirts.    The Tennessee Gesneriad Society reports in their newsletter that they use black covers.   Should we consider black covers for our show tables?

The next site we will probably participate for plant sales will be the Chinese New Year Festival.    Grow plants for this show now.   The date will be confirmed shortly.

The program was a slide show of Streptocarpus hybrids.

After a short break we did the Show and Tell and the Raffle.

The meeting adjourned about 3:50pm
