The Prez Sez...

Hi everyone.  January is here with its usual inclement weather.  We've had rain, cold, and wind so far.  All we are missing is warmth.  But, today is sunny and not too cool, so I can't complain.  I've been lucky so far, with no frost or very cold night time temperatures.  The outdoor plants are all doing their dormant best.  Indoors I have lots of new plants coming along. I've started a lot of seed, mostly of gesneriads such as sinningias, nematanthus and a few oddities.  Also from seed, I am growing lots of succulents of the genus aeonium--my hybrids and selfings.  The seed from the Brazil Plant Club has germinated but sparsely.  But, I hope to raise at least one plant from each of the six packets I have planted so far.  When they get going I will be propagating and distributing them.  So, look forward to a good raffle table in the future.

 

Meanwhile, lets all make sure we have a good table for this month.  Bring starter plants or bagged cuttings or leaves.  Also, now is a good time to start propagating for our summer show and sale (as well as future meetings). We will need to increase our club's income as the Hall will be raising our rents around September.

Members should be prepared to have a discussion of the program schedule for next year, including slide shows people would like to see, speakers, field trips, topics, etc.

 

By popular demand, our program will be another round of Gingo (Gesneriad Bingo) with fabulous prizes!
