The Prez Sez...

July is getting on for mid-summer and the weather is acting as usual as I'm sure you have noted! I have made a lot of cuttings from my old and woody hanging pots. A couple of columneas are in bloom, then they get a hair cut, too. Petrocosmea begonialfolia is in bloom, I'll bring it in to show you.
I hope that several of you are entering the San Mateo County Fair this year, I have nothing promising, but I should have a lot next year! So get those entries it!

Notes on the Conservatory of Flowers Tour

Five of us gathered at 11am in front of the Conservatory of Flowers and took the regular docent tour of the Conservatory. This took us through the east and west wings as well as the central section of the Conservatory. The west wing had a special display of carnivorous plants, most interesting. As we were finishing the tour Clare Cangiolosi, a member of our club and also one of the gardeners at the Conservatory, came up to me and said "follow me". We did so and got to view the back greenhouses, the underground filtering systems for the irrigation, the automated controls for the misting, etc. She gave a preview of what greenhouses were to be torn down and replaced by lecture rooms for future programs at the Conservatory. We were grateful to Clare for the special tour.
