Program: Fred Grafelman on African Violets
The Prez Sez...
by Katherine Henwood
Tt's raining at last and I hope it will keep on for a few days! This business of watering in winter is silly! Not much happening in the greenhouse. I do have a chirita blooming and some of the streptocarpus leaves are popping up little plants. They always make me think of piglets lined up to their mother.
Our new order of pots has come in, 6 inch hangers, rose pots, round 2 1/4 and 3 inchers, and square 3 1/2 inches. I hope you will buy a lot of them because those boxes are taking up space in my garage.
Our program this month will be on African Violets, so bring your questions, specimens, and maybe some leaves to share?
Looking forward to seeing you there.
This Month’s Program
by Terri Campbell
This month we are delighted to have a speaker, Fred Grafelman, who will give us a presentation on saintpaulias or African violets. Our thanks to Harriette Poss for arranging this with Fred.
Also, if you have any to spare, please bring cuttings, seeds, or small plants to trade or raffle, so that we can all raise some plants for our plant sales later this year!

Minutes of the January 21, 2007 Meeting
by David Waugh
The meeting was called to order at 1:18pm by President Katherine Henwood. The following were also present: Harriette Poss, David Waugh, Gene Sussli, Jon Dixon, Anna Chou.
Minutes: There were no corrections to the minutes for the November meeting which were in the December newsletter. We enjoyed a Christmas party in lieu of a meeting in December.
The Treasurer passed around a report summarizing our financial condition for the months of November and December 2006. If anyone not at the meeting wants a copy of this report please request them from the Secretary. There are no outstanding bills. For the first time we received a check at the September Show and Sale which was returned to us as unpaid along with a bank charge for processing. Checks cannot be redeposited in the hopes they will then clear. We have contacted the issuer of the check in the hopes they respond with a payment.
New Business: There was no new business
Continuing Business: The President, in the absence of Terri Campbell, our Program Chairman, asked members to submit ideas for meeting programs for the year 2007. Suggestions were slide shows of kohlerias, sinningias, a plant growing clinic, a lecture by an authority on African Violets, a clinic on propagation by cuttings and tubers, tours of a wholesale greenhouse, Jon Dixon’s greenhouse and plant tables, the Conservatory. These ideas will be taken under consideration, consolidated and presented to us in our 2007 Year Book.
The program for this meeting was a slide show of the companion genera Codonanthus, nematanthus, and x codonanthus.
We then did Show and Tell and the Raffle.
The meeting was adjourned by 4pm.
