Program: Holiday Luncheon

The Prez Sez...

by Katherine Henwood

December is a hard month, good because it is the month of Christmas and my birthday, and while it is the end of the year, there is the promise of spring, longer days to come and more light!

One of my favorite things is our Holiday Lunch.  We will be at the Lakeside Café again, our reservation is for 12:30 P.M. on December 16, our usual meeting day. Remember that members lunch is covered by SFGS, guests are extra. If you like presents, (and I do!) bring one wrapped garden related gift (not more than $10.00) for a gift exchange.  Lakeside Cafe is located at 2529 Ocean Ave., between 19th Ave and Junipero Serra in San Francisco.  If you were not at the last meeting and plan to come, please let me know no later than December 10 so I can confirm our reservation.

I look forward to seeing you all at this festive occasion.

Gesneriad Websites

by David Waugh

While I was procrastinating about typing the notes for the minutes of the November meeting I decided to visit the new Gesneriad Society web site.   I had visited it before, but it is so large there is always something new to discover.   Indeed, I found that our long time member Alan LaVergne has produced an extensive web site called Sinningia and Friends at this URL: http://home.earthlink.net/~sinnvenner/sinns.htm

Someone at the November meeting mentioned “Streptocarpus Garage” and said to google it.   I did that and found a very interesting site about Streptocarpus and other gesneriads by a gentleman living near Toronto, Canada.   He also raises all sorts of cats on the first floor of his old barn.   The second floor is devoted to gesneriads.   The address is http://www.streptocarpus-info.com
