Program: Slide Show on Alpine Gesneriads
The Prez Sez...
by Katherine Henwood
Where does the time go? Here it is September, our Show and Sale are just two and a half weeks off and are you ready? More than enough time to get out there and check up on showable plants! Remember when you groom your plants to be sure the pots are clean, too. I hope you all have several plants to enter, a full show is always impressive. This is one way we attract people, showing off our beauties. And don't forget the sale plants!
We have a neat slide show for this meeting, "Alpine and Cool Growing Gesneriads". Cool growing certainly fits our area even if alpine does not. Come and see!

by Terri Campbell
At our next meeting we will have a slide program on "Alpine Gesneriads" and discuss last-minute details for our September 23-24 show.
We hope that everyone will be able to participate in our annual show. Setup will be on Friday afternoon and evening, Sept. 22nd. Show plants should arrive on Sept. 22nd. We will have some extra time on Saturday morning to set up the sale, as the show and sale will be closed to the public until noon. Sale plants can arrive on Saturday morning, if necessary. We have assigned clerks and a cashier. The rest of us will be needed to set up the show and sale, monitor the show and sale rooms after they open, and answer questions for the visitors. We always have a lot of fun as well.

Brazilplants Seed List
By David Waugh
There have been many posts to this club but most are from members requesting seeds or acknowledging receipt of seeds. I have made copies of all the posts and if anyone is interested they will be available at meetings for anyone to read.
On August 27th a new August list of available seeds was posted to the web site. As the list is 6 pages long it seemed more appropriate to just give you the Gesneriaceae list. If anyone wants to request seeds please let me know before October 10, 2006.
Show and Tell and Raffle Table

I’m really busy again for this newsletter cycle so here are the originals.
Also, Paula DeBella brought the following: K." sunny", S. "Blue Oragon" and Vanhoutea Lanata.
Minutes of San Francisco Gesneriad Society
August 20, 2006 Meeting
By David Waugh, Secretary
Prior to the meeting Katherine Henwood and Terri Campbell sorted through the ribbon box to be sure we had the necessary ones for the September show. Also in the box were old ribbons received by the club in past years. These will now be displayed in our cabinet space in the Garden Club Room.
The meeting was called to order at 1:47pm by President Katherine Henwood. The following were also present: Harriette Poss, David Waugh, Gene Sussli, Larry Williams, Terri Lynn Campbell, Jon Dixon, Irene and David Fey, Kevin Daly and Paula De Bella.
Minutes: There were no amendments to the minutes of the July meeting printed in the August Newsletter.
The Treasurer distributed summaries of reports for May/June and July 2006. If anyone not at the meeting wants a copy of these reports please request them from the Secretary.
We received the annual request for a donation toward the liability coverage afforded us because of our membership in The Gesneriad Society. They also wanted to know how many of our membership belongs to the Gesneriad Society. The Secretary confirmed he will get that information from The Gesneriad Society Membership chairman and see that our donation of $25 gets paid.
We received a thank you note from Paul Kroll, recipient of an award contributed by our club to the 2006 Gesneriad Society Convention.
Continuing Business: San Mateo County Fair, August 11-20 went well. There were 29 gesneriads entered in addition to some saintpaulia, all in all a good representation of gesneriads
Seeds received from Brazilplants were distributed.
Our fall show and sale, Falling in Love with Gesneriads, September 23-4 will be finalized shortly, including the assignment of Judges. The Show Schedule has been approved by the Gesneriad Society and was sent to members along with entry forms by email. As these items did not make the August newsletter they will also be sent by regular mail. The flyers will be mailed to our mailing list, club members, and newspapers on August 30.
The Gesneriad Society officers have a two day Friday/Saturday winter retreat some time in February. San Francisco is on the list as a possible destination. Since it is the 3rd weekend, usually, they could join us at our February 2007 meeting. Jon Dixon is in touch with the organizers of this event and will let us know if we become the destination of this retreat.
We then did Show and Tell and the Raffle.
The meeting was adjourned by 4pm
