Program: Slide Show with Ron Parsons
The Prez Sez...
by Katherine Henwood
Here it is November already! Not much happening in the greenhouse, but I will bring in some Petrocosmeas that are blooming now. Must be spring where they come from! I grow them in the alleyway, which is in effect an unheated greenhouse, protected from the rain but open to air on the north end. They seem to like the cooler climate and, as you will see, are blooming happily!
This month should see elections for officers and board members for next year, but I neglected to appoint a nominating committee, so volunteers will be solicited. Please review the Yearbook and By-laws for descriptions of offices and be ready to say yes! Oh yes, dues are due.
Ron Parsons will be with us for one of his wonderful slide shows. I hope to see you all.
Slide Show with Ron Parsons
by Terri Campbell
SFGS member and noted flower photographer Ron Parsons will give his talk on "California Wildflowers" at our meeting on Nov. 19th.
He will present a cross-section of our diverse flora, from one end of the state to the other, representing tens of thousands of miles driven. His favorites are the Calochortus (Mariposa Lilies, Cats Ears, Star Tulips and Globe Lilies) and other members of the lily family (Lilium, Fritillaria, Erythronium, etc), orchids, Monkey flowers, Violas, etc., so expect to see a number of those.
Brazilplants Seed List
By David Waugh
Brazilplants new seed list (available from me) was posted on October 15. The club is entitled to six seed packets; therefore, if you are interested in a seed packet please let me know, with possible second choice, what you would like. I will consolidate the requests and send them on to Mauro. The easiest way to get your request to me would be at the November 19th meeting.
Sacramento Field Trip
By David Waugh
Five of us
participated in the field trip to Sacramento for the Show and Sale of the Delta
Gesneriad and African Violet Society. We arrived in Sacramento about 12:15pm and proceeded to
Old Sacramento to try the restaurant Fat City for lunch. The food was
plentiful and good. It is housed in a very old building and decorated with
many stained glass lamps and chandeliers. This restaurant is a branch of
restaurants owned by the Fat family, the original of which is a mainstay for
government officials in Sacramento.

We then proceeded to the Sacramento Garden and Arts Center in McKinley Park to view the Show and Sale. The Show was still being judged when we arrived (it opened at 2pm) so we viewed the sale plants. Soon the Show was opened for viewing and some pictures were taken. Both the show and sale were smaller this year compared to past years, but all plants exhibited were in excellent condition.
About 3:30pm we returned to the Bay Area, having fulfilled our fix of gesneriads.
