Program: Field Trip to Annie’s Annuals
The Prez Sez...
by Katherine Henwood
The June exhibit and sale went pretty well, thanks to the efforts of Terri Campbell, Kevin Daly, Jon Dixon, Irene Fey, Alan Lavergne, Gene Sussli, and David Waugh, all of whom put in a full day. We had a good number of customers, but probably only broke even. Lots of nice plants with a great number of them left over for the September sale.
For our next meeting we are off to visit Annie's Annuals. More information will follow by email. If you don’t have email and need more information, please give me a call. I hope that you will all be able make it.

Minutes of The American Gesneriad Society of San Francisco
May 21, 2006 Meeting
by David Waugh, Secretary
While some of us were talking and snacking, a visitor arrived, Javier Wong from Peru. He chatted with us about how he grows African violets in Peru and was fascinated by some of the plants members had brought in. He took a flyer of our June sale but declined to stay for the meeting.
The meeting was called to order at 1:15pm by President Katherine Henwood. The following were also present: Harriette Poss, David Waugh, Alan and Debra LaVergne, Gene Sussli, Larry Williams, Terri Lynn Campbell, Jon Dixon, Irene and David Fey, and M. J. Tyler.
Minutes: There were no amendments to the minutes of the April meeting printed in the May Newsletter.
Treasurers Report: The Treasurer passed around copies of a report of our income and disbursements for the month of April 2006. We have no outstanding debts, a comfortable balance in the bank, and a cushion reserve in a Certificate of Deposit. If you missed the meeting and want a copy contact the Treasurer.
Continuing Business: Everyone who can, please come to the Garden Club Room at 8am, Saturday June 3 to cover the tables, the display tables, arrange and price sale plants. We will have approximately 160 plants, streptocarpus, sinningia speciosa, tuberous begonias to sell in addition to sale plants brought by members.
Gene Sussli brought up the subject of our purchasing blooming plants to add to the sales table on June 3. He has found a wholesale company that has blooming streptocarpus, sinningia speciosa and tuberous begonias available for $3.50 each. We should be able to sell these plants for at least $8. After some more discussion it was moved and seconded that we have Gene purchase some of these plants on behalf of the club for the sale.
The San Mateo County Fair is August 11-20 and the entry deadline is July 10. If you are planning to enter in this fair and have not received their Entry and Prize Catalog contact Gene Sussli who will see that you get one. In addition to entering plants we will have a special display about Gesneriads. This display will be judged and we may win a prize. Gene Sussli and Alan LaVergne are working on this.
Our Fall Show and Sale is September 23-4. We need to line up Judges for the Show, design a flyer so that it can be printed and mailed by August 14. The Show Schedule needs to be prepared immediately and mailed to the Gesneriad Society for approval. After some discussion it was decided that the theme for this show will be:
Falling in Love with Gesneriads
In addition to grooming plants for the Show we will need plants for the sale, so continue taking cuttings and rooting them.
New Business: It was moved and seconded that we donate $25 to Gesneriad Society for an award designated by their Awards Chairman for the Show at the 2006 Convention.
It was moved and seconded that the Club join Brazilplants Support Club, the cost being $60. The check will be sent to Lee Stradley who is coordinating membership in USA. David Waugh will be the email contact for messages from the Club.
The program was discussion and demonstrations about terrariums, bubble bowls, aquariums used to create an interesting display of plants for judging at a Judged Show, like our upcoming September Show and Sale. Katherine Henwood, Jon Dixon and Terri Campbell as well as others contributed their thoughts on how to create an interesting display.
We then did Show and Tell and the Raffle.
The meeting adjourned before 4pm.
