The Prez Sez...

by Katherine Henwood

Here it is summer, the solstice has past and days are getting shorter already!  By the time we meet, the convention will have become history, and we will be thinking about the shows in August.  I hope that all of you are planning to enter at least one plant in each of the categories of the San Mateo Co. Fair, as well as many entries in our own show.  Plants are also needed for our sale, held in conjunction with our show.

Members of our Board of Directors are asked to come early,(10:30 AM) on our meeting day, July 17. Looking forward to seeing you all!

Minutes of The American Gesneriad Society of San Francisco

June 19, 2005 Meeting

by David Waugh, Secretary

The meeting was called to order at 1:21pm by President Katherine Henwood.   The following were also present:  Harriette Poss, David Waugh, David and Irene Fey, Gene Sussli, Larry Williams, Celine Chase, Alan LaVergne, Terri Lynn Campbell, Jon Dixon.

Minutes:  As the May meeting was a field trip to the  University of California Botanical Garden there were no minutes to approve.

The Treasurer again reported we are in good condition.  As reported in the June Bay News we netted $477.39 at our June 4 plant sale and display.

Gene Sussli had made copies of the sections of the San Mateo County  Fair (August 12-21) entries and prize catalog that applied to gesneriad entries, and passed that out.  He pointed out Division 308 has 8 classes for gesneriads (3 for Saintpaulias, 5 for other gesneriads).   There is also Division 309 for collections of plants where 3 or more gesneriads can be entered, each in an individual pot.   There is a charge of $1 for each entry.   Plant labels do not have to be hidden.  Entry forms must be postmarked July 11.

The slide show program did not arrive so we had another extended  “show and tell”.

We then did the raffle.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:43 pm
