Holiday Banquet Information

by David Waugh, Secretary

Members at the meeting last Sunday are aware of the following and indicated (with one exception) they would be at the banquet.

Through an error our Sunday reservation got bumped, so we are now having our banquet, paid for by the Club (except for wine and dessert), on Saturday, December 18th at 12:30pm at Lakeside Cafe, 2529 Ocean Avenue (between Junipero Serra and 19th Avenue), San Francisco.

As in past years there will be an exchange of gifts between those who want to do so.  No one is required to participate in this.  The gifts, (maybe garden related) with a value of $10 or less, will be numbered and then there will be a drawing among the participants to see who gets what gift.

If you need driving, or public transportation directions please contact David Waugh by email at dgwah@sbcglobal.net

If you were not at the meeting and plan to be at the banquet, or if you were at the meeting and your plans change, please let Katherine Henwood know before December 6. Her email address is oakenhead@att.net

Plant Sale in May or June 2005

by David Waugh, Secretary

It was suggested at the November meeting that we have a one day sale on a Saturday in late May or early June.   The Garden Club Room is not available during this time. The Recreation Room (on the other side of the kitchen) is available on June 4, 2005, and has been reserved for us.   This is the same day that the Nursery, south of the parking lot, will be having their monthly sale from 10 to 2pm.

Our rental fee for a sale in the Recreation Room will be about $125.   If we could have rented the Garden Club Room the rent would have been $85.

As the Recreation Room is larger, should we consider inviting another plant club to join us in the room for a sale, divided in such a manner so that each group would have its own check-out cashier?

He brought the following plants for the raffle table: Dalbergoria sanguinea, Gloxinia lindenii, Kohleria ‘Astarte’, and coleus. David Waugh brought Smithiantha no name for show and tell and donated two Episcia ‘Silver Skies’ cuttings to the raffle table. Minutes of The American Gesneriad Society Of San Francisco

November 21, 2004 Meeting

by David Waugh, Secretary

President Terri Campbell called the meeting to order at 1:10pm.   Members present were David Waugh,  Jon Dixon, Terri Campbell, Kevin Daly, Irene and David Fey, Harriette Poss, Gene Sussli, Ken and Vera Parker, Ron Parsons, Paula De Bella. We greeted new member Anna Chou.

There were no minutes to approve as we had a plant sale in place of a meeting on October 17.

The Treasurer advised we are in good financial condition as a result of the October sale.  We took in $699 plus a new member.   The net amount cannot be determined as the bill from the County Fair Building has not arrived and there are other expenses to summarize.   The Treasurer reminded everyone that 2005 membership dues are payable.   She will also be accepting dues at the Holiday Party.

David Waugh announced the details of the Holiday Party, arranged by Katherine Henwood who was not at the meeting.   The party is on Saturday, December 18, 12:30pm at the Lakeside Café on Ocean Avenue, the same location of our party in 2003.   Members who wish to do so can participate in an exchange of gifts, not over $10.  A show of hands indicated that almost all members present will be at the party.   An email/letter will be sent reconfirming the details of the party.

After a bit of discussion it was agreed that we should have a one day plant sale in late May or early June, on a Saturday.   David Waugh will see what room is available during this period.   This one day sale will be in addition to our Show and Sale the weekend of August 27-8.

A Nominating Committee has been appointed to offer a slate of officers for the year 2005.   The nominations will be in the December Newsletter, and a short meeting to vote on the slate will take place at the Holiday Party.

We then did ‘Show and tell’.  During this part of the meeting Gene Sussli suggested that members guess the number of streptocarpus seeds in one cubic inch.  To help us guess, he passed around a small plastic container which had 1162 seeds in it.   We each put our guess for one cubic inch on paper.   The winner was Terri Campbell—2,600,000 seeds.   Her prize was a small table size greenhouse.

The Raffle took place just before the meeting adjourned about 3:40pm
